The Army Headquarters Selection Board (ASB) Indian Army has released the official notification for Chinese Interpreters on their website. As per the official notification, there is a total vacancy of 5 Civilian candidates and 1 Ex-service officer. The candidate (male/female) must be a citizen of India with an age limit ranging from 18 to 42 years.
For the first time, Chinese language translators are being hired by the TA, despite the Army making extraordinary efforts over the previous four years to teach its soldiers in Mandarin. According to sources cited by News18, the military has upgraded its Chinese language training, and language experts represent a crucial component of its overall strategy. This comes with the “recalibration of the Army’s strategic stance towards the Northern Borders.”
According to the Indian Army website, the Territorial Army is a part of the regular Army. Its current duties include relieving the regular Army of static tasks, assisting civil administration in the event of natural disasters, and maintaining essential services when the security of the nation is in jeopardy. It also provides regular Army units as and when they are needed.
The last date to apply for the posts is August 10, 2022. Civilian candidates are required to have a graduation in the Chinese language with a minimum of 55%marks from a recognised university/ institute or a two years entrepreneurship Diploma/ HSK-4 from a recognised University/ Institute with graduation in any subject.
For Ex-service Officers, the eligibility criteria state graduation in any subject with two years interpretership diploma in Mandarin Chinese Language SFL/AEC Trg college & centre with minimum ‘BX’ grading.
The application process will end on the 10th of August, 2022. The proficiency test will be of have 300 marks and it will include proficiency in writing, listening and speaking. The interview will be for 200 marks which will occur in August/September. The conducting body will select the candidates for further rounds and send in a call-up letter through the territorial army directorate.
