HSK 3 GRADUATION LUNCH – HOTPOT
.
Few weeks back MeiYu organized a farewell lunch for our graduating students to a famous hot pot restaurant. Chinese hot pot (火锅 – huǒguō) literally ‘fire-pot’, with it’s history of over 1000 years, is one of the most traditional and popular meals in China and is a great way to chat, laugh and drink in a big group over delicious food.
The concept is very simple: a simmering metal pot with broth boils at the centre of a table and people can add and cook all the raw ingredients they like in the broth.
Three deep metal dishes welcomed us, each filled with white and red soup, white being mild and red being the hotter one, kept simmering over a induction stove. Tray upon tray of cut meat, along with veggies, noodles and several kinds of mushrooms all get thrown into the three bubbling pots, a little at a time.

The extra-long chopsticks and small ladles make it easy to retrieve the edible treasures from the hot pots. The servers efficiently kept bringing new ingredients to throw into the three pots, until we call it quits. It took us a surprisingly long time to actually call it quits… Good students are notoriously famished all the time, right?
Add to this glorious mix a lively conversation between fellow MeiYu students and we have the perfect recipe for a great afternoon!
